You can use iron-on patches to place your design before sewing it into place. This adds further reliability and a more secure hold. 

For short-term use, tape backing is your best option. These are great for performances, festivals, and more. The tape allows for easy removal, though it will not survive through the laundering process. 

If you happen to be looking for a patch attachment that allows for simple relocation and reattachment, choose a velcro backing. The hook-and-loop fasteners are durable and provide a stronghold. However, you have the ability to move patches from one garment to another quickly and effortlessly. Velcro patches are great for morale patches and others.
